Africa Basel: A New Era for Contemporary African Art

In June 2025, a groundbreaking event is set to enrich the global art scene: Africa Basel, an international art fair dedicated to contemporary African art and its diaspora. This innovative fair will coincide with the renowned Art Basel week, positioning itself as a central attraction in the city and offering a vibrant showcase of Africa's diverse artistic expressions.

Conceived by art fair entrepreneur Sven Eisenhut-Hug and creative visionary Benjamin Füglister, Africa Basel will take place from June 16th to 22nd, 2025. This event is anticipated to be a cultural milestone, providing a platform for both seasoned and up-and-coming artists to present their work to an international audience.

The curatorial team behind Africa Basel includes esteemed figures such as Azu Nwagbogu, Michèle Sandoz, Serge Tiroche, and Greer Valley. These experts in African and Afro-diasporic art bring their extensive knowledge to the selection process, ensuring a diverse and rich representation of galleries that reflect the current landscape of African art.

In their selection of galleries, the curators prioritize a wide array of artistic expressions, ranging from traditional to contemporary forms. This strategy not only underscores the dynamic nature of African art but also enhances the understanding and appreciation of its cultural importance.

As the art community eagerly anticipates the debut of Africa Basel, there is a palpable excitement about the creativity and talent that this new platform will unveil. With its dedication to celebrating African art and its diaspora, Africa Basel is poised to become a key event in the global art calendar, offering new perspectives and encouraging cross-cultural exchanges.
